Our Story

Aloha, we are a small family homestead and farm in lower Kalōpā mauka on the Hāmākua Coast of the Big Island of Hawai’i.

We are the Vazquez family (Ivan, Georgiana, and our two keiki), and we started the farm in 2023 with the dream of learning to restore the health of the ‘āina, contributing to Hawai’i food sovereignty, and teaching the next generation (or anyone who is interested!) about the importance of caring for the ‘āina. As a former professor of Environmental Policy, Health & Sociology, Georgiana is passionate about living in a way that supports the health of people and planet, and about teaching others to do the same.

We use regenerative and organic farming practices, including producing compost enhanced with manure from on-farm livestock, using biochar to improve the soil’s long-term health, replacing invasives with native plant species where possible, and using organic pest control methods. We are solar-powered and strive for zero-waste approaches in our farming and homestead practices.

In addition to our own farm harvest, we collaborate with hyper-local island farmers and producers to bring you a wide variety of local and organic produce. If you are in or around the Honoka’a area and would like to offer some of your harvest through our farmstand, please contact us.

By purchasing locally grown food, you are supporting the ‘āina and local farmers (no farmers, no food!), which strengthens island food sovereignty. Considering that well over two-thirds of Hawaii’s food is imported, sustaining local food production is imperative.

We are grateful for every person who stops by and hope you enjoy our farm-fresh herbs, vegetables, fruits, eggs, and everything else that we make using the bounty that this ‘āina momona provides.
